HISTORY:

Pacific Rim Educational Foundation, in partnership with School of Tomorrow, Philippines has embarked on a program to assist the Philippines in becoming a leader in reading skills. BLESS or Basic Life Empowerment and Support Services was launched in August 2003.

BLESS is a condensation of the reading program used by thousands of Filipinos who have learned how to read in just 16 weeks. It is phonics based where 35 letters and blends are learned. Intertwined also are rudimentary math skills and values instruction in 4-hour segments. The targets are out-of-school youth, indigent, tribal and street children.

The modules are designed to give each child a head start in the education process. The cost of the program is primarily borne by sponsors and hosts who desire to contribute to the future of the nation. BLESS is being sponsored by those individuals and groups who see the lack of reading skills as a major hindrance to progress in the country.
