“We are 9 children in the family. My father died and my mother works as a laundrywoman in our neighbor’s house. I’m a Tausug Muslim and I helped my mother as a bakal boy, gathering scrap and other metal. I thank BLESS that I was qualified to enroll in their reading program. My mother does not know how to read and write, so she can’t teach me. But now, I could write, enjoy reading syllables and simple words and memorize scripture verses. I wish I could continue my studies through an elementary, secondary and college.’

“My mother left me with my grandmother when I was still very small. My lola (grandma) cannot send me to a public school because she can’t afford. I’m happy we hear about the BLESS and I took the Reading Readiness Test. I got a score of almost 100%. I enjoyed reading words, reciting Scripture verses, mastering the alphabet sounds and eating nutritious snacks. I learned also how to clean the room, wash plates and taking a bath and combing my hair. I wish I could be somebody in the future if I could continue my studies.”
